Mid-Atlantic

Explore the Mid-Atlantic region of coastal states, big cities, and early American history.

The Mid-Atlantic is a small region of states along the American East Coast. The area includes Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, and the District of Columbia.

Some of the most popular travel destinations in the Mid-Atlantic are Philadelphia, New York, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh. The geologically diverse region spans the coast across the Appalachian Mountains to the Great Lakes, including the enticing Finger Lakes across New York.

New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware were part of the Middle Colonies during the Colonial era, and Maryland was part of the Southern Colonies. Most Revolutionary War battles occurred further north in New England or the Southeast between Virginia and South Carolina.

The Mid-Atlantic is a great place for road trips along U.S. Highway 1.
